Field Test | 15-315mm MWIR Continuous Zoom Lens - Long-Range Detection with Exceptional Clarity
28 May,2026
We recently completed a field test of the 15-315mm MWIR continuous zoom lens. Covering the 3μm to 5μm mid-wave infrared band and maintaining a constant F4.0 aperture throughout the zoom range, this lightweight (≤860g) high-resolution lens demonstrated its long-range detection and continuous zoom capabilities in a real-world outdoor environment. The test video focuses on a distant building and highlights two key advantages.
Sharp Imagery Throughout the Zoom Range
In the video, the lens zooms smoothly from the wide-angle end (15mm, FOV 35.5°×28.7°) to the telephoto end (315mm, FOV 1.75°×1.4°). The wide-angle end captures the spatial relationship between the building and its surroundings, offering a broad field of view. The telephoto end magnifies sections of the building several kilometers away, resolving fine details such as window frames and façade structures. Throughout the zoom range, the image remains consistently sharp, free from blur or stepping, enabling wide-area search and long-range tracking without secondary focusing.
Excellent Optical Axis Consistency
During zooming, the target building remains steadily centered in the frame with no noticeable shift or drift. This characteristic ensures stability when tracking targets with continuous zoom, reducing the burden on post-processing and gimbal compensation.
Compact and Lightweight Design
The lens has an optical total length of 137mm and an optical back focal length of 25.8mm. The front surface features an anti-reflection coating, with a durable hard-carbon coating available as an option for enhanced field durability. The complete unit weighs no more than 860g, with dimensions of Φ96mm × 114.2mm. The focusing range extends from 10m to infinity, and the operating temperature ranges from -40°C to +60°C. The lens is well-suited for UAV payloads, vehicle-mounted EO turrets, remote fixed surveillance platforms, and more.
Moving forward, we will continue to release more field test videos, focus on the frontiers of advanced optical technologies, increase R&D investment, and drive technology applications. We aim to deliver increasingly competitive optical products in infrared, visible light, laser, and other fields.
