Broader Vision, Finer Detail: Company Launches 0.1X–10X MWIR Microscope Lens Series to Enable Full-Scene Lock-in Thermography for Semiconductor Inspection
23 Apr,2026

As semiconductor processes advance toward 3nm and beyond, chip failure analysis faces the dual challenge of requiring both a wide field of view and high resolution. To address this industry pain point, Wuhan Clear Technology Co., Ltd. announces the official launch of its full-series mid-wave infrared (MWIR) microscope lenses, including 0.1X, 1X, 3X, 5X, and 10X magnifications. Designed specifically for lock-in thermography in semiconductor applications, this series enables seamless coverage from fast full-wafer scanning to precise single-transistor-level hot spot localization.
Conventional infrared lenses often struggle to balance a large field of view for macroscopic inspection with high magnification for precise positioning. Through precision optical design, this newly released series establishes a complete magnification ladder:
0.1X Wide-Angle Lens – A rare low-magnification design in the industry, covering a full 12-inch wafer in a single field of view. Ideal for rapid pre-inspection, it allows engineers to obtain a complete thermal distribution map of a chip in seconds, quickly identifying suspect areas.
1X–5X Series General-Purpose Lenses – Designed as the workhorses for daily failure analysis, these lenses feature aberration optimization tailored to the heat conduction characteristics of packaged and bare-die chips, clearly capturing thermal diffusion paths.
10X High-Magnification Lens – With a high numerical aperture (NA), this lens achieves micron-level spatial resolution. In lock-in thermography, it accurately pinpoints short-circuit leakage sites at the single-transistor or fine interconnect layer.
The series is not merely a combination of magnification levels but is deeply optimized for lock-in thermography:
High infrared transmittance: Anti-reflection coatings are applied for the 3–5 μm MWIR band; when paired with a high-sensitivity cooled MWIR camera, the system can detect temperature differences as low as 0.1 mK.
Excellent athermalization design: Minimizes the influence of ambient temperature changes during long-duration lock-in integration, ensuring stable and repeatable inspection data.
In practical tests, engineers used this lens series with an MWIR camera to image standard targets, fully demonstrating the imaging capability from macro to micro scales:
0.1X lens: Covers the entirety of a large object in a single field of view, delivering uniform imaging across the whole FOV – suitable for wafer-level rapid scanning. 1X–5X lenses: Magnify specific areas of the target with clear detail and sharp lines, showcasing excellent aberration control. 10X lens: Maintains outstanding resolution and contrast even at high magnification, with micron-scale features clearly visible – meeting the demands of transistor-level precise localization.
